About Decorative Things
“Buying is a creative job, not a passive one.”
“There’s no fun like work.”
“Develop imagination, throw away routine.”
-Gordon Selfridge, Founder, Selfridges, UK
Decorative Things was founded in 1988, before online home decor stores existed. In the earlier years of the business, we designed and manufactured decorative accessories for the home and sold them to retailers (like Barneys, Bergdorfs, Ralph Lauren, Burberrys, The Metropolitan Museum and thousands of Mom and Pops). Now, we still manufacture most of the products we sell and we’ve become a retailer by launching decorativethings.com.
2025 will be our fourteenth Christmas selling home decor online. Our fantastic customer service team enjoys interfacing directly with customers all day, and sometimes night, via email or on the phone. We love how fast we can react to a customer's needs.
We specialize in unique home decor, and sometimes even chic and cheap home decor. We manufacture most of our home decor accessories right here in the USA. You'll find bathroom decor, kitchen decor and table decor, as well as party supplies. In case you haven't noticed, we love textiles. Even our paper hand towels are inspired by textiles, like our Caspari decorative hand towels made with licensed designs from the French textile designer, Pierre Frey. Our cloth napkins, table runners, window valences and long and extra long shower curtains are all made from decorative fabrics we source. We pride ourselves on having an attractive, up to the minute selection from stripes and shibori to toiles.
Even though we pride ourselves that our products are made in the USA, we try to keep the British WWII slogan, Keep Calm and Carry On top of mind when things get hectic around here. Keep Calm and Carry On whatever you are dealing with. It's not always easy. Life can be bittersweet. We hope our decorative accessories make you smile. A DIY home decor project can be good therapy. You can channel Frida Kahlo's kitchen in her Casa Azul, get inspired by Yoyoi Kusama's polka dot pumpkins at Halloween, indulge in a pile of chintz throw pillows ala Mario Buatta, The Prince of Chintz....Wherever you are cultivating your home and garden, stay in touch. We’re so pleased to meet you!
